His Legacy

As anticipated after Mao’s death, there was a power struggle for control of China.

Supporters of Mao credit him with advancing the social and economic development of Chinese society.

Mao is regarded as a national hero of China. In 2008, China opened the Mao Zedong Square to visitors in his hometown of Shaoshan in central Hunan Province to mark the 115th anniversary of his birth.

The Little Red Book, was published by the Government of the Peoples Republic of China from April 1964 until approximately 1976. As its title implies, it is a collection of quotations excerpted from Mao Zedongd's past speeches and publications.
